Our Midwifery Birth Center in the Gateway neighborhood of east Portland opened in 2017. It’s a place where healthy women at a low risk of developing complications during pregnancy or childbirth can receive care throughout pregnancy and birth. Yep – all in the same, lovely surroundings with a care team they know and trust. At the Midwifery Birth Center, care is led by our certified nurse-midwives. The great (and unique) thing: it’s part of WHA so if you need access to ultrasound, laboratory testing, genetic counseling or physician consultation—is all right there. And we do mean right there; the Midwifery Birth Center is located next door to our Gateway clinic.

“I am so filled with gratitude for the midwives and nurses at the Birth Center who counseled me and gave me medical advice throughout my miscarriage. I had barely been established with them as a patient before the event, but they treated me with utmost respect, care and clear guidance throughout the entire experience- and mostly over the phone and during after-hours! Thank you for making me feel heard and cared for during this challenging time.”
If you’re pregnant and want to begin care at WHA–or need to schedule an appointment during your pregnancy, call us! Find a provider and location here.
This will allow our teams to check whether your plan may require a referral for the care you need or to prepare benefits information to share with you at your visit. If you do not enter insurance information when scheduling, you may be asked to pay a $200-$500 deposit before receiving service.
