Kara A. Richardson, MD, is an OB/GYN physician and surgeon with Women's Healthcare Associates in Portland, Oregon.
“I strive to make sure my patients have a full understanding of their health and any recommendations, are comfortable asking questions, are able to make informed decisions about their own healthcare and feel heard and supported throughout the process.”
You could say Dr. Richardson grew up in the hospital—tagging along to work with her mother, also an OB/GYN physician. She loved the environment, was in awe of the obvious joy her mother took in connecting with patients and determined to become a doctor herself one day. Despite approaching her choice of specialty with an open mind, Dr. Richardson quickly gravitated toward OB/GYN in medical school and her passion for connecting with patients and helping them make informed decisions about their reproductive health has not wavered. She enjoys all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology, from preventative health and wellness to the fast pace of labor and delivery. Most of all, she appreciates building relationships with people that can span the majority of their lives and supporting them through some of the most joyful and difficult moments—her inspiration for providing the best evidence-based and compassionate care possible.
Dr. Richardson cares for people at different ages and stages of life and has a particular affinity for working with adolescents and those who identify as LGBTQ+. She enjoys robotic surgery, contraceptive and pre-pregnancy counselling and managing pregnancy complications. She also helps people with heavy bleeding, fibroids, painful periods and abortion care. When she’s not working, Dr. Richardson enjoys spending time with her partner, travelling around the world, going to trivia nights, hiking, board games and puzzles, playing tennis, baking and finding good happy hours.
