From the Provider
“I never want someone to leave thinking, ‘I should have asked that.’ I know how easy it is to wonder whether you’re overthinking something, but if it’s worrying you, I want to talk about it.”
About the Provider
Dr. Kuo knew early that she wanted to be the person in the room who knew what to do. When she was 12, she was caring for her three-year-old brother when he had a severe asthma attack that eventually required hospital care. Being responsible for him in that frightening moment stayed with her and helped shape her path toward medicine.
Her draw toward OB/GYN became clear during medical training, when she witnessed an unexpectedly fast, unmedicated birth in the emergency department. What stayed with her was the way the care team centered the person giving birth, despite the unexpected situation. That experience shaped the kind of physician she wanted to become: someone who listens closely, makes room for a patient’s goals and keeps the person in front of her at the center of whatever the situation brings.
Dr. Kuo provides obstetric and gynecologic care with particular interests in physiologic and unmedicated birth, planning for labor and vaginal birth after a prior Cesarean (VBAC), breastfeeding medicine, contraception, and perimenopause and menopause care. She especially enjoys supporting people who come into pregnancy with a clear idea of what they hope for, whether that means an epidural, an unmedicated birth, a VBAC or something else. Her role, as she sees it, is to offer clear information and recommendations when they’re needed, help patients understand what is safe and possible, and advocate for the choices that matter to them.
That same approach carries into gynecologic care. Dr. Kuo likes the conversations where there isn’t one right answer: choosing contraception, weighing hormonal and non-hormonal options for perimenopause or menopause symptoms, or talking through questions about breastfeeding before and after birth. She encourages patients to bring up the worries they may be tempted to dismiss or keep to themselves. A self-described “what-if” thinker, she knows how easy it can be to wonder whether a concern is worth mentioning.
Outside of work, Dr. Kuo enjoys hiking, baking and working out. She stays busy with three young children and a dog.
