Dr. Thomas is a radiologist specializing in women's imaging. She works for Diagnostic Imaging NW and is one of a team of outside radiologists who examine screening mammograms and ultrasounds completed at WHA for possible signs of abnormalities. Based on findings, she orders and reviews follow up diagnostic mammography and ultrasound exams and performs biopsy procedures, when needed. As a convenience for our patients, Dr. Thomas and her colleagues work on-site at WHA's Northwest Gynecology Center, Peterkort office two days a week.
"I hoped to become a physician for as long as I can remember, and practiced using my Fisher Price doctor’s kit on family members from a young age. When my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer about 20 years ago, the care and compassion of the radiologist who found and diagnosed her tumor made a huge impact on me, and his practice is one I strive to emulate. My grandmother still talks about him with gratitude to this day."
Inspired to pursue radiology and breast imaging by her grandmother's experience, today Dr. Thomas finds it a perfect match for her skills and passions. She enjoys the visual aptitude required by radiology and interacting with patients and their families. Biopsy procedures allow her to help them answer important questions and make informed decisions.
Dr. Thomas is a passionate advocate for women's health and considers it a privilege to be on the front lines in the battle against breast cancer, finding tumors while they are small and curable and also educating patients and the medical community about the tremendous value of screening mammography. Her expertise includes mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography), breast ultrasound, breast MRI and breast biopsy. In addition to breast cancer screening, she helps patients investigate breast and axillary lumps, nipple discharge, breast skin and nipple/areolar changes, breast pain, mastitis and breast abscess.
A born and raised New Mexican, Dr. Thomas always has a stash of roasted green chile in her freezer and believes no holiday season is complete without posole, tamales and biscochitos. Cooking and baking are among her favorite things to do alongside her husband, Ryan. She also enjoys reading just about everything and exercising (to offset all the baking). She and her husband can frequently be found hiking in Forest Park or Hoyt Arboretum with their dog, Islay.
