Joana H. Nam, MD, is an OB/GYN physician and surgeon with Women's Healthcare Associates in Portland, Oregon.
“I started my career as an engineer, working in ultrasound. While I enjoyed the work, I realized what was missing were the interactions with patients and being able to listen to their personal experiences. What I enjoy most now is spending time with my patients and having the opportunity to really investigate the root of their concerns in order to find the best solutions out there for them.”
Dr. Nam’s career has been inspired by her enduring interest in women's health, and this dedication continues to define her practice today. She truly loves and appreciates the balance and variety that obstetrics and gynecology has to offer. She is in awe of the strength and capability of her patients as they navigate their reproductive health goals, and she enjoys getting to know people early in their lives, supporting them as they mature and their needs change. She cares for people of all ages, helping them with contraception needs, pre-pregnancy counseling, pregnancy management and a wide range of other gynecological issues, including management of abnormal bleeding, uterine fibroids and pelvic pain. Dr. Nam is passionate about minimally invasive surgery, particularly using a vaginal approach.
Dr. Nam is first generation Korean-American. Born and raised in California, she eventually moved to Washington after college and fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and all it has to offer. Dr. Nam attended medical school in Australia and maintains an interest in global health.
