Dr. Irena Cabrera is an obstetrician/gynecologist (OBGYN) physician and surgeon with Women's Healthcare Associates in Portland, Oregon.
“As a medical resident site director, the early part of my career was very focused on education. I carry that with me into my care of patients, too, as a foundation of empowered decision-making. I especially love working with young people, helping them learn about their bodies early so they can make good decisions throughout their lives.”
Dr. Cabrera has been focused on becoming a doctor for a long as she can remember. Always fascinated by birth and knowing she wanted to do something with a surgical component, once she got to clinical rotations in medical school she realized OB/GYN offered the perfect balance of clinical care, being able to build relationships with people over time, surgery and, of course, babies. Her medical school training also imparted a strong emphasis on whole-person care that considers not only the physical health of the individual, but their mental, emotional, social and spiritual health, as well—and their overall quality of life. Her focus is on compassionate, empowering care and partnering with patients to provide the information they need to make their own decisions. In addition to obstetrics, Dr. Cabrera helps people address fibroids, endometriosis and pelvic pain, among other gynecologic issues—and is skilled in minimally invasive, fertility sparing and complicated surgeries. She cares for all people, including those who identify as LGBTQ+, across the lifespan, and places particular emphasis on helping people maintain their health and quality of life during the transition to and following menopause.
Dr. Cabrera grew up in New York. Married with three large dogs, she and her husband love to hike, eat and travel.
