Ben Johnson, MD, is a board-certified OB/GYN physician and surgeon at Women's Healthcare Associates in Portland, Oregon.
“Something that drew me to the practice of OB/GYN is the opportunity to help patients by making a real and meaningful difference in their quality of life. We have an ever-increasing range of effective non-surgical, medical and surgical methods of improving every day well-being for patients. I enjoy trying to find the right solution for each unique person.”
Dr. Johnson credits his practical, straightforward approach to his upbringing on a cattle ranch in Montana. His aptitude for science led him to medical school, where he was drawn to the variety offered by obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Johnson appreciates the ability to use education, medicine and surgery, as well as emotional support, to help his patients address problems, navigate important decisions and optimize their health through all life stages.
Dr. Johnson helps patients manage their reproductive health, including choosing contraception, family planning, investigating infertility and options counseling. In addition to caring for healthy pregnancies, he also manages complications during pregnancy, such as gestational hypertension, diabetes and twin pregnancies. As the former director of WHA’s gynecologic ultrasound program, Dr. Johnson is skilled in using the technology to help assess and treat gynecologic issues, such as infertility, fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, heavy or abnormal bleeding and painful periods—using both medical management and gynecologic surgery, including laparoscopy. He also helps his patients monitor and manage cervical cancer screening results and address the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, including hormone therapy.
In his spare time, Dr. Johnson enjoys woodworking, yoga and a variety of outdoors sports, including rock climbing, biking and skiing. He and his wife have a very enthusiastic golden retriever named Nelson.
