Bodily Health Comes in Every Shape and Size
Weight is only a number. And yet, our culture has conditioned us—women…
Sydney Shannon, WHNP, is a nurse practitioner with Women's Healthcare Associates in Hillsboro, Oregon.
“Many of us were raised with a lack of complete and reliable information about our own reproductive health. I love being able to share information with my patients that they may have never heard before—or have never have had explained in a way that they can connect with. If that helps them feel more empowered in their body and confident asking questions and making decisions, then that is a really good start.”
Sydney can trace the origins of her health care career to her childhood, watching her pharmacist mother connect with friends and family as she answered their questions and helped them find better solutions. When she began exploring different directions, the patient-centered practicality of the nurse practitioner career path drew her immediately, and her long-time passion for women’s rights made her choice of specialty an easy one. In her practice, Sydney provides routine obstetric care, and really enjoys helping people understand their contraceptive options. She also likes helping people who may be experiencing general pelvic pain or pain with sex and hopes to foster an environment where people feel empowered to talk about what they’re experiencing openly without shame. She subscribes to the principles of Health at Every Size® in her holistic approach to wellness care, and hopes to help every person connect with their body and find ways to feel well in it as a means to achieving the quality of life they desire.
Raised in Portland, Sydney loves the Pacific Northwest and being able to give back to the community through her practice, which is really the fulfillment of a lifetime of working with and mentoring women in various capacities—as a camp counselor, youth group leader and volunteer. Outside of work, she plays soccer and is an avid Oregon State University sports fan and season ticket holder and also enjoys live music, snowboarding, paddle boarding, camping and playing board games with friends.

She was casual and friendly which made me more comfortable.
Everything went very well, all the staff were lovely
the Dr was fantastic!
I was very happy with both my doctor and the lab technician who took my blood. Both were very kind and good at their jobs. The nurse was very short and didn’t seem very happy to be there but still was cordial.
She is very professional, yet comfortable
My first visit to this office. Looking for a new provider. Really enjoyed the nurse practitioner I met with. She was very thorough. And I appreciated that I could get an appointment within a reasonable time.
Dr. Shannon was so professional and polite. One of the best OBGYN visits I've ever had. She answered all my questions, gave me options for treatment and was thorough in her explanations. She was amazing.
Sydney Shannon really took the time to get to know me as a patient and took her time to explain my options.
My visit with Sydney was wonderful. She listened to what I have to say and was compassionate and did not brush me off about my symptoms which has happened with other providers (different office) before.
Absolutely excellent experience with Sydney and the student. They were really exceptional in truly listening and advising, and making me feel comfortable.
Loved my interaction with Sydney. She was kind, knowledgeable and thorough. She listened carefully and provided options for me to consider. Later, when i had questions regarding my results she and other nurses in the office were prompt and great help. I felt heard and cared for. Thank you so very much to her and everyone else in the office that makes vulnerable moments better through care.
Everyone was wonderful!
Sydney was fantastic. The only thing is she didn't say Miconizol was OTC so I waited to hear from pharmacy when I could have started it and started feeling better sooner.
It's been over 25 years since I had a pelvic exam. I was nervous but Sydney made it very easy for me. I am post menopausal and had my uterus removed 40 years ago so that was important to me.
All around excellent visit! I was truly impressed with Shannon's skills and communication. She took care of my tricky issue and I went away happy :)
She was perfectly professional and kind.
She made me feel comfortable, and was patient with my lack of knowledge. She was a good listener and answered all of my questions.
Great experience!
Honestly this was one of the best visits I’ve ever had in any medical setting ever.
I was so impressed with her! I felt so comfortable and listened to. Please keep her around!
Compliments to the team at Women's Healthcare Associates. I had a pleasant experience and felt safe and comfortable. I appreciated the very clear communication and obvious care for my comfort level while the pap smear was happening.
Sydney is possibly the best health care provider I have had in my 36 years. I feel very heard, seen, and cared for with her. She supported me through some of the most difficult health-related experiences of my life, and made them so much more bearable than they could have been. And in the past, I had terrible experiences with IUD insertion, and she made the whole process so much more comfortable (and a whole lot less painful).
Sydney was awesome
Sydney Shannon was a delight to work with. She was very caring and knowledgeable. She patiently and thoroughly answered each of my questions. Sydney was clearly my advocate in women's health.
It was my first OB in the US and it was a great experience
This was my daughter's first visit to the "lady doctor" and Dr Sydney was amazing! Thank you
This was my first gynecology appointment, so naturally a lot of nerves going in, as soon as I got there I felt safe and welcomed! I felt okay being completely clueless!
My experience with Sydney and Molly was fantastic. They were both wonderful.
Dr. Shannon put my IUD in and she was amazing and would recommend her to everyone
Absolutely wonderful experience! As someone who has a lot of anxiety around healthcare settings, I cannot express how grateful I am to have found y'all!!
Sydney was absolutely amazing. She removed my Nexplanon and completely put me at ease. It was very quick and she explained every step in a detailed way.
Sydney is a wonderful caring informed absolutely terrific caregiver.
The best provider I've ever had for women's health
She was very knowledgeable, professional, and empathetic.
Felt very at ease during visit, easy and friendly to speak with
I appreciated that she took the time to listen to my concerns and provided me with some information while also validating my feelings.
This is the most cared for I've felt in a long time by a healthcare provider. I'm so grateful.
Kylie and Sydney made me feel so cared for and comfortable. I am grateful for the time they spent with me educating me on my options and describing the details of my procedure. I would recommend them and WHA to anyone.
extremely friendly and helpful!!
She was AMAZING.
Sydney is a great listener and one of the best health care providers I’ve ever seen. I am very glad to receive care from her and this clinic.
My provider was very kind and answered all the questions I had!
