Provider Bio

Sydney Shannon, WHNP, is a nurse practitioner with Women's Healthcare Associates in Hillsboro, Oregon.

From the Provider

“Many of us were raised with a lack of complete and reliable information about our own reproductive health. I love being able to share information with my patients that they may have never heard before—or have never have had explained in a way that they can connect with. If that helps them feel more empowered in their body and confident asking questions and making decisions, then that is a really good start.”

About the Provider

Sydney can trace the origins of her health care career to her childhood, watching her pharmacist mother connect with friends and family as she answered their questions and helped them find better solutions. When she began exploring different directions, the patient-centered practicality of the nurse practitioner career path drew her immediately, and her long-time passion for women’s rights made her choice of specialty an easy one. In her practice, Sydney provides routine obstetric care, and really enjoys helping people understand their contraceptive options. She also likes helping people who may be experiencing general pelvic pain or pain with sex and hopes to foster an environment where people feel empowered to talk about what they’re experiencing openly without shame. She subscribes to the principles of Health at Every Size® in her holistic approach to wellness care, and hopes to help every person connect with their body and find ways to feel well in it as a means to achieving the quality of life they desire.

Raised in Portland, Sydney loves the Pacific Northwest and being able to give back to the community through her practice, which is really the fulfillment of a lifetime of working with and mentoring women in various capacities—as a camp counselor, youth group leader and volunteer. Outside of work, she plays soccer and is an avid Oregon State University sports fan and season ticket holder and also enjoys live music, snowboarding, paddle boarding, camping and playing board games with friends.
