Sarah Barco Foster is a certified nurse-midwife at Women's Healthcare Associates in Oregon City, Oregon.
“My interests in feminism, reproductive activism, botanical medicine and natural health set me on a long and winding path toward nurse-midwifery that started in my late teens. Along the way, I became a doula, a licensed professional midwife and a certified lactation consultant. More than 20 years after attending my first homebirth, I became a certified nurse-midwife and completed my doctoral program in nurse-midwifery so that I could provide a broader range of services across the lifespan to people who might not otherwise have access to midwifery care.”
Listening, making true connections with her patients, understanding their priorities and helping to inform their decisions are just a few of the reasons Sarah loves her job. She strives to meet each person where they are at, helping them understand the risks and benefits on the path to making safe and informed choices. Sarah particularly enjoys helping people understand their reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections and contraceptive options, including IUDs and birth control implants (Nexplanon). She has extensive experience in physiologic birth in both the hospital and community settings, and she enjoys supporting LGBTQ+ patients through pregnancy and the transition to parenthood.
Sarah and her partner have two children that keep them busy and laughing. In her free time, she can be found gardening, traveling, dancing and exploring wild places with her family.
