“Our society is organized in a manner that often leaves parents neglected and without the emotional or social resources necessary for a healthy pregnancy, birth, and parenthood. The systems in place inherently create disparities by providing some individuals with means and strong support systems and discounting others. This reality inspired my career path and guides me in my daily practice of supporting parents in cultivating opportunities necessary to thrive.”
Ivy Rose’s fascination with the experience of parenthood began with her studies of gender roles and expectations in the context of family. She eventually decided to pursue a career in mental health where she felt she could have the most impact by being directly present and engaged with the individual. She describes her approach to working with patients as relational, emphasizing the importance of understanding dynamics and patterns that keep people stuck and using the therapeutic relationship as a locus for change. Her training is based in psychodynamic therapy, which brings attention to the roots and development of suffering. She integrates somatic work that encourages bodily awareness and processing of emotional experiences including trauma, stress and anxiety. Ivy Rose works with people on relational, familial and interpersonal patterns and conflict; individuals who have experienced relational harm, such as interpersonal violence or assault; and pregnant and postpartum people. She sees patients of all ages, but connects particularly well with teens and young adults.
Ivy Rose’s own forms of practicing joy include any type of movement (dance, yoga, spinning), enjoying Italian food and wine with her partner, and loving on her foster dogs.
