What is a Nurse Practitioner?

A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse with advanced education and training, usually obtained through a graduate level program. Women’s Healthcare Associates’ nurse practitioners are nationally certified and licensed through the Oregon State Board of Nursing. This allows them to order lab tests, diagnose and treat medical conditions, and prescribe medications to manage a patient’s care. Although our nurse practitioners work independently, their physician colleagues are available for consults when necessary.
