Lauren grew up in Massachusetts. She received her bachelor’s degree from Duke University in North Carolina. After graduating from Duke, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and spent a year and a half researching women’s mental health in post-conflict Guatemala. Upon returning to the United States, Lauren attended midwifery school at the University of California at San Francisco, where she was honored as an Albert Schweitzer Fellow and a UCSF Global Health Clinical Scholar.
One of the things Lauren enjoys most about being a midwife is helping women feel informed and proud of how amazing their bodies are. Her personal commitment is to make the clinic and the hospital settings less intimidating for women and their families, and to act as an advocate for women. She feels very privileged to witness women bringing their babies into the world and grateful to take part in such an intimate part of her patient’s lives.
Lauren’s interests include working with adolescent mothers and using her Spanish, Portuguese and French language skills to work with immigrants from all over the world. She has worked in women’s health in many countries, including Guatemala, Ghana, Mocambique and Kenya. Lauren enjoys learning about different belief systems and practices around reproduction, contraception and childbearing from her diverse patients.
In her spare time, Lauren loves to travel. She grew up dancing, singing and performing and enjoys taking African and Latin dance classes, going out dancing and attending live performances. Lauren is also a certified Zumba fitness class instructor.
