Helen was born at home in Berkshire, England into the hands of a midwife. She qualified as a nurse and midwife in England in 1981 and has been assisting women and their families to safely negotiate pregnancy and birth ever since. She immigrated to the United States in 1985 following marriage to her American husband. In 1995, Helen obtained her master's degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and in 2008 she was awarded the prestigious American Academy of Nurse Practitioners State of Oregon Award for Clinical Excellence.
Helen believes pregnancy and birth are a part of the normal life process for a woman. She understands her role is to guard this process, intervening only when necessary to protect the health of mother or baby. She particularly enjoys the long-term relationships she is able to establish with women who return to see her on a yearly basis. Helen has a wonderful and very patient husband and two incredible children.
